NUT PICKING SEASON 2024

Blue Mountains March to Mid April

IT’S THE SEASON TO GO NUTS, THIS MARCH & APRIL!

Chestnut and walnut season in the Blue Mountains is only for a brief time of the year, about 5 or 6 weeks. It has just started for this year, so you are still able to arrange your trip to the Mountains and enjoy a fun family daycation experience.

While you are here you can take in the stunning Autumnal colours of the local area.

This year is being touted as a bumper crop year! Here are our top picks for your nutty day out.

TIPS FOR FIRST TIME VISITORS

  • Mount Irvine is a rural location, so there are no shops or service stations in the area, so make sure to bring any snacks and water you may need, as well as ensuring you have plenty of petrol for the return trop. Mobile reception is pretty sketchy.
  • Both farms also recommend bringing gardening gloves as the chestnuts are quite spikey, as well as tongs to help you pick the nuts off the trees or ground. Long tongs will save you a backache.
  • Buckets and mesh bags are provided.
  • Dogs are welcome at both farms, if they are on a leash and well behaved.
  • Take Bells Line of Rd to Mt Wilson turnoff, follow Mt Wilson Rd to Mt Irvine.

WHY NOT STAY MORE THAN THE DAY!

If you would like to make a weekend out of your trip, we offer some gorgeous options for accommodation in the area. Kookootonga Cottage is located at Kookootonga Farm, and the other properties are no more than a few minutes’ drive.
